Meditation – WHY I like to ask WHY NOT?

Part 1 of a series

There are many benefits to meditating – and everybody has there own reasons as to why or why they don’t meditate.

Just as there are many benefits there are almost as many ways to do it.

Some of the questions I have been asked over the years of teaching meditation to others are:

  1. Do I have to sit cross legged in a dark and quiet room?
  2. Music or no music?
  3. Do I have to listen to somebody talking / guiding me thru?
  4. Can I meditate anywhere, anyplace anytime?
  5. I always fall asleep when I meditate – shouldn’t I stay awake?

Guess what folks – there are no right or wrong answers – if it works for you then do it!

I find that I meditate at different times for different reasons and they all have different benefits for me.

  1. Stress – by centering my breathing I can move into a different mind set after a hectic day at work, or when going into challenging meetings.
  2. Vision quests – when I am trying to problem solve – often envisioning all the possible outcomes of the situation enables me to resolve issues.
  3. Soul journeys – I can often meet with my guides and be shown new skills, and have questions answered.
  4. Quieting the mind – when the night time mind chatter won’t settle down and allow me to sleep – I like to put on some peaceful music with a guided meditation that guides me into sleep.

I personally really enjoy meditation moments and they can be just that – shifting into the meditation breath changes my outlook on things and helps me get thru the day. Now I just have to remind myself to find the time to meditate when things in my life are going right.

Meditate alone, or join meditation groups – again if it works for you then keep on doing it.

*next time – Grounding
